Shoot 1: Sunrise - Work Record:

Aim for shoot:

The aim for my first shoot is to photograph the sun rising. As my topic is journey it means that there are a variety of different ideas that can be explore, some of which may not be commonly suggested as journey. The sun rising in the morning and setting in the evening is something that I consider to be a journey. I think that this shoot would be interesting as it is an example of work in the theme of landscapes. I will need to take into account my camera setting while shooting as, while the shoot progresses I will be dealing with increased amounts of light, meaning I will have to adapt my camera settings accordingly to cooperate with the shoot and ensure that my images don't look over exposed.

Development of idea:

I decided that the best location for me to conduct this shoot would be the large field close to my house. This field also has a small forest-like area meaning i would have multiple locations to attempt this shoot. My shoot was influenced by the work of landscape photographers such as Ansel Adams. (http://www.anseladams.com ) Landscape is the main way that adams photographs and I found that by looking at his work i had ideas for my own shoot.

The actual shoot:
I discovered that the sun would rise around 6:30 so decided to be at my location by 6:20. When i arrived at my location i discovered it was a lot brighter than i was expecting, however the Sun was not completely up. I began my shoot in the open field photographing the different parts of the sky and how they differed from each other.

This image is an example of this style of shooting. This image was taken with a shutter speed of 1/60 p/s, an aperture of 5.0f and ISO 400. This image is an example of how i used Adams work as an influence, This is evident in the different shades of colour in the images and the different colours themselves. The composition for this shoot was simple mainly focused on the sky but showing a small amount of buildings to give the image some perspective. The editing of this image was also left very minimal as i felt that the more natural and unedited the colours looked the better.

After staying in this play for a while I decide to move to the forest area, and walked up the hill where i could see quite clearly the sun rising. I found that this location worked a lot better when aiming to look at the sun itself and not the sky. I found that i was able to see a lot clearer the movements that sun made and how this changed in my images.

This is an example of my images once i moved location. Here the actual location of the sun was made more clear. Also the increased amount of light in this image evidenced that the sun had risen to a higher point at the time. The image was taken with a shutter speed off 1/400 p/s an aperture of 14f and ISO 400. I feel that the shadows formed from the surrounding trees and bushes really compliments this image as it almost acts as a boarder around the sun making is more centured and more interesting. I think that this adds a sense of depth that was formed by the composition and was timed at a good point allowing for the sun to be in the middle of the gap and the frame.
